The Steichen House
Built: 1904
Dedicated: 2016
Transport yourself back to the early 1900s and visit the home of the Steichen family! From 1904 to 1915, this charming dwelling belonged to the parents of Edward Steichen - a legendary photographer whose work has left an indelible mark on American art.
But the Steichen House holds more than just a connection to the famous photographer. It was here that Edward's sister, Lillian, met Pulitzer Prize winner Carl Sandburg through the Socialist Party in Milwaukee. They quickly hit it off and kept in touch through heartfelt love letters.
In June of 1908, Carl Sandburg came to Menomonee Falls for a visit, staying with Lillian's family in their lovely home. The two fell deeply in love and were married just a week later.
Saved from the brink of demolition, the Steichen House was moved to Old Falls Village in December of 2002. And now, after years of restoration and hard work, this historic gem has been opened to the public for all to enjoy.
